The Congregational Support Committee seeks to encourage and support congregations to grow in their particular ministries. Current support projects include provision of resources and counsel for Christian education, youth ministries, accommodations for people with special needs, evangelism, new church development, congregational transformation and renewal, stewardship, and education in environmental issues.
The Mission Support Committee initiates, encourages, and supports mission programs and projects beyond the capabilities of a local congregation with current programs including presbytery’s camping program, summer conference, a mission conference, programs and projects for social justice (alleviation of hunger, peacemaking, justice for women and children and older adults, and self-development of people) and works cooperatively in worldwide partnerships as available.
The Professional Support Committee supports and cares for Cascades’ ministers and other professional staff by providing for the special needs of active, retired, and newly-ordained ministers, those seeking commissioning for lay-minister service or certification as Christian educators, providing orientation for ministers new to the presbytery, providing a retreat for church educators, assisting ministers and other church professionals with pensions issues, providing a media resource center, and by providing opportunities for spiritual growth and enrichment.
The Relational Support Committee creates resources and programs to develop supportive relationships within the presbytery and with other sisters and brothers in Christ by interpreting and encouraging Presbyterian partnership giving, helping congregations to relate to each other in supportive ways, encouraging ecumenical relations, relating to the ministries of Presbyterian Women, and providing avenues of communication via webpage, newsletters, and electronic messaging.
