Pakistan flooding worst in more than 80 years; help needed
More than 1,400 people have been killed, and at least 1.5 million people are displaced. Thousands remain stranded. Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is working with our ecumenical partners to respond to the needs. Read more.  
International speakers come to Cascades Presbytery this fall
Four speakers will be in Cascades Presbytery this fall to share information about our connection to mission in Bolivia.  Each is available to preach, speak to congregational events, present at committee meetings, and share with community groups. Information

Near East School of Theology president speaks in Portland, Sept. 9
Mary Mikhael, first woman president of the Near East School of Theology in Beirut, Lebanon, speaks at Colonial Heights Presbyterian, 2828 SE Stephens St., Portland, on September 9 at 1:30 p.m. Come hear what Mary has to say about the education of Christian leadership in protestant churches of the Middle East.  Flyer
Carol J. Dempsey leads Lectionary Retreat, Sept. 20-21
The annual Lectionary Retreat for those who preach or teach during the year is at the Shalom Prayer Center in Mt. Angel.  Information
Missional Church Conference in Salem, Sept. 25
The Missional Church Conference featuring The Rev. Limited tuition scholarships for ‘Healthy Congregations,’ Nov. 18-19

‘Mission 2010’ offers resources on risk-taking mission, Sept 18
Designed to inspire congregations to understand and embrace risk-taking mission and service, “Mission 2010” is September 18 at the Alton L. Collins Retreat Center in Eagle Creek, OR. The event features Dr. Dana Robert of Boston University School of Theology. More: Mission 2010 brochure
Piano, organ concert presented at Pacific City, Sept. 19
Enjoy a fundraising piano/organ concert by the music team of Margaret Slagle and Shelley Stoll at Nestucca Valley Presbyterian Church in Pacific City on Sunday, September 19 at 3 p.m. Bruce Bridgess (who helped design the windows), will also participate.
Earth Care Congregations certification program launched
Use resources in “Earth Care Congregations: A Guide to Greening Presbyterian Churches” to find ideas for earth care projects and to become certified as an Earth Care Congregation. Take the “Earth Care Pledge” and complete activities and projects to become certified. The program was launched at General Assembly, and two congregations in Cascades helped test it.  See: PCUSA Earth Care Congregations

New Women's study in the Media Resource Center: Loved by God
By Liz Curtis Higgs, Loved by God is a verse-by-verse study of Genesis 27-29, examining the lives of Jacob, Esau, Leah and Rachel.  Liz is known for her humor and deep spiritual insights. She most recently wrote Bad Girls of the Bible. The kit is a seven-session study, with 30 min. film portions, 120 page workbook and a facilitator's guide.
